SOCIALISM: the silent killer of FREEDOM
In my opinion, the problem with the Democratic Party has always been victimization. My father was a blue-collar worker, with a steadfast moral compass. Taught us that no one in this life owes you anything. You are responsible for yourself. He lived that. But…that philosophy flew in the face of his prejudice against ‘suits’. That irritating Bernie Sanders-esque attitude of those with more are undesirable, arrogant, greedy snobs. Some may well have been, but not because they had ‘money’, but due to who they were as people inside.
However, that broad brush my parents used to characterize the wealthy painted over this distinction. It shaped my opinion until I got out into the world and eventually realized the error in this thinking. I believe that, unfortunately, their diehard dedication to the Democratic Party was rooted in (unbeknownst to them) a lack of competency or disappointment with themselves when compared to those who achieved more.
My father would have adored President Trump, and my mother did as she entered her final years. I liken this current fascination with Socialism to a frog in a slowly heating pot. Too comfortable, too acclimated, too anesthetized to notice the rising temperature until it’s too late. The raised frog head should serve as a silent warning. The most dangerous changes unfold so gradually that their red flags go unnoticed. ![]()
